Auditions

All musicians take part in a short audition for SWSO each year. This process helps us place every player in the ensemble that best matches their current playing level. As they grow and develop, their ensemble placement may change from year to year.


Musicians will be asked to play:
  • A piece of their choice that reflects their current level
  • A scale appropriate to their level
  • A short sight-reading excerpt provided by the conductors

Ensemble placements and seating arrangements are based on how students play at their audition, not on their length of membership. 

We believe that auditions are a valuable learning experience. It builds confidence and encourages consistent progress. We want to prepare SWSO musicians for real-life musical experiences.

2026 auditions
Auditions will be held on 29 January 2026 at Harrington Park Community Centre.
