South West Sydney Orchestras (SWSO) is a collection of ensembles servicing the Macarthur, Liverpool and Wollondilly areas with high quality musical experiences for people of all ages.

They rehearse at Harrington Park Community Centre on Thursday from 5.30 - 8.30pm and include all instruments in the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion family.

SWSO musicians present 2 concerts a year with additional performances at community events.

Auditions
Auditions will be held on 29 January 2026. More information about our auditions and ensembles can be found under the "Ensembles" tab of our website.
Prelude Strings members have the option of submitting a video recording to swsoconductors@gmail.com instead.

Thanks to the support of Wests Group Macarthur, our annual fee is now $500.

With the ongoing support of our other sponsors, an early bird subsidised fee of $450 is available until 22 January 2026 to ease the back to school costs.

Family discounts apply and payment plans are available.

Terms and conditions

  • Our Code of Conduct, to be observed by all musicians and their families:

    You must respect the conductor and other SWSO parents, children and volunteers at all times. Any rudeness or offensive behaviour may result in the suspension or cancellation of your course.

    You must ensure you bring all necessary music, your instrument, music stand, a pencil and eraser for all rehearsals.

    All music handed to you must be handed back to the orchestra after the concert. You are not allowed to bind music and any markings must be made in pencil and erased when returning.

    You are required to dress and act in a professional manner at all events.

    Parents must supervise their child under the age of 10. We ask that you stay in the rehearsal hall to assist if your child needs anything.

    All children under the age of 18 are not allowed to leave the building, their parent or guardian must come into the building to pick up their child.
  • Regular attendance to rehearsals are expected. If you are unable to attend a rehearsal you must contact the conductors by email at swsoconductors@gmail.com If a number of rehearsals are missed in the lead up to a concert, it will be at the conductors discretion if you are allowed to perform in the concert.

    The SWSO membership fee is non-refundable.
  • Photos and Social Media
     
    In joining SWSO, all members and their families have granted permission to the South West Sydney Youth Orchestras and its committee to use photographs, photographic and artistic interpretations and other replications of you in any publicity material, including but not limited to social media platforms, printed media and on the official South West Sydney Orchestras website.

    If any musician or their family wishes for a specific photograph, interpretation or replication to be removed from the public view, they must raise this with the Manager or President as soon as possible.
  • Requirements for SWSO Membership

    Musicians are required to hire or purchase their own instrument to bring to rehearsal.

    Musicians are required to bring a music stand and their music (provided to them by SWSO) to rehearsals. After performances musicians are required to hand back their music to the librarian.

    Musicians are expected to have private instrument lessons outside of SWSO and practice their SWSO music. This may take place at their school, a music institution, or a private tutor. See our resource page for tutors: https://www.swso.org.au/resources
